Study Hubs Australia Non-Executive Director
Study Hubs Australia is a not-for-profit organisation working alongside communities, universities and governments to create local pathways to tertiary education through the community-led study hub model. We believe every Australian should be able to access and succeed in tertiary education within their own community.
We are seeking experienced non-executive directors to help embed study hubs as an enduring and effective part of Australia’s tertiary education system, so access to tertiary education is not limited by where people live.
The opportunity
This is an opportunity to contribute to a growing national organisation with a clear social purpose: building the shared evidence, policy and practice that communities, tertiary education providers and governments need to support effective study hub operations and studying in place.
As a member of the Board, the Non-Executive Director provides independent governance, strategic oversight and stewardship, bringing informed judgement, constructive challenge and sector insight to Board discussions while upholding the legal, fiduciary and ethical responsibilities of an Australian not-for-profit charity company limited by guarantee.

Key responsibilities
- Contribute actively to Board deliberations, decision-making and the effective governance of Study Hubs Australia.
- Provide independent judgement, constructive challenge and strategic insight to support the organisation’s mission, long-term direction and priorities.
- Monitor organisational performance, risk and compliance, and help ensure appropriate governance frameworks, policies and controls are in place.
- Exercise financial stewardship by reviewing financial information, supporting responsible oversight of resources and safeguarding organisational sustainability.
- Support the appointment, oversight and accountability of the co-Chief Executive Officers, while respecting the distinction between governance and day-to-day management.
- Act in the best interests of the organisation, disclose and manage conflicts of interest, and uphold the legal, fiduciary and ethical duties of a director.
- Contribute relevant networks, expertise and sector knowledge to strengthen Board capability, stakeholder engagement and organisational impact.
- Prepare for and attend Board meetings, Board committee meetings and key organisational events as required.
Additional requirements
Qualifications or training in Board governance, such as the Australian Institute of Company Directors course or equivalent, are desirable. Consideration may also be given to supporting suitable applicants to complete relevant company director training.
